• Like sleeping on natural materials – We know that wool and latex may not sound appealing to someone used to memory foam, but the difference in quality is impressive! Avocado does feel like a cloud from every point of view, and it will never let you.
• Want a surface with no harmful chemicals – The company went to such lengths in avoiding any chemicals that they didn’t even use glue to fix the layers inside. They use the tufting process for this, which in the long term, is better.
• Like a medium-soft design with good support – The coils have some pushback action (not strong), and the latex layers on top are soft but bouncy. Overall, the surface is a bit softer than the generally accepted medium feel, but it does counteract with the amazing coils.
• Don’t want a bed that will overheat – Manmade foams have a tendency to overheat, but this product is designed with organic latex processed using the Dunlop method, which is also aerated. As a result, the air moves through the surface quite freely.
• Need a design that’s easy to rotate – Manufacturers encourage rotating the snooze surface every 5 or 6 months to increase its durability, but this would be difficult to do with a design like Avocado because it is pretty heavy. Luckily, the sides are equipped with heavy-duty sewn-in handles that make the job a lot easier.

• Are looking for a lightweight product – Because of the natural latex, this bed is heavy. So, if you’re hopping on something that can be easily handled by a person, this may not be the best brand for your needs.
• Need the memory foam feel – First, no harmful chemicals were used for Avocado, so there is no way you could find any viscoelastic in it. Second, organic latex is contouring, but it is also bouncy and very responsive, which totally kills the idea of memory foam.
• Don’t believe a natural setting could be so affordable – While it is indeed a bit difficult to accept the price and level of quality, there is a simple explanation. By cutting off the middleman and keeping the assembly process locally, Avocado managed to reduce the costs to the actual level.

Thoughts on Layers and Construction

The Avocado Green Mattress is an all-natural, Dunlop latex surface that uses a pocketed coils system for variable support and motion isolation. Above the coils, there is an aerated 2-inch layer of organic latex, and right underneath them, you will find another layer of latex (just one inch this time) that serves as protection against wear and tear.

The two layers of latex are actually the ones providing comfort and responsiveness, while the 8 inches layer of coils is in charge of keeping the spine aligned and eliminating pressure points as needed (here is where the variable support kicks in).

Now, if you want a bit more softness, you can always get the added topper, which is another layer of latex (2-inches extra). Of course, you should consider that this will make the overall platform heavier than it already is due to the presence of natural latex.

The cover is soft and luxurious, due to the organic cotton fabric that is very breathable and durable. It’s also button tufted, which is a more efficient method to keep all the layers together (rather than using glue). This prevents any lumping in the foam as the surface breaks in. A cool thing to note here is that the buttons used for tufting are made of organic wool and serve as both as anchors and as humidity and temperature regulators.

Right above the first latex layer, the manufacturer added a 0.5-inches layer of Joma New Zealand Wool that gives a bit more plushness and keeps the sleeper dry and cozy.

It’s important to know that the manufacturer doesn’t use any harmful chemicals or petroleum-based foams to make the Avocado, so the bed is perfectly safe for your health. In addition to that, the latex, cotton, and wool involved in making the bedding, come from sustainable resources, making this an environmentally-friendly product.

Firmness Level

The Avocado is a soft surface that provides good pressure relief and contouring. Still, the pillowtop adds two extra-inches to the height which is helpful for more sensitive sleepers.

It’s important to note that we did the review with the added pillowtop and the mattress did feel a bit softer. This happens because the latex in this layer has a different density compared to the latex in the layer right above the coils.

Overall, if you’re looking for a 100% natural surface that is soft and contouring but still features springiness and good ventilation, the Avocado is a perfect choice.

Sleeps Hot or Cool – The Results

We reviewed the cooling: The core of coils is very advantageous for a sleeping surface because it ensures maximum ventilation. However, because Avocado is made only with natural materials, there is no risk of overheating either way.

The wool on top wicks the heat and humidity away from the body, and the latex is aerated (hos holes in it) while also being naturally cool and a good temperature regulator.

Of course, we did our testing during the review, but Avocado didn’t let us down. This is a platform that sleeps cool and can even face the hot, summertime.

Edge Support

One thing every sleeping surface with coils has is good edge support. Still, with Avocado, the coils are well-dispersed through the entire surface and stronger around the edge. This way it won’t matter if you sit or roll around in bed – the bedding will remain well-balanced.

However, while reviewing the version with the pillowtop, we noticed some compression, but only for that layer of latex. The rest of the mattress held everything together quite admirably.
