The wonderful Simba mattress is designed and manufactured in the UK, and it’s one of those products you can test before purchasing. The surface is available in stores all over the UK, from three different retailers, which makes it a lot easier to go in for a test.
We wanted to do a thorough review of the product because many users find it to be ‘lion king’ of hybrid mattresses, so we decided to stick to the basics and tested the Simba Hybrid. The manufacturer also has a different model, called Simba Luxe, which has a more complex inner-structure.

You’ll Really Like Simba Mattress If
- You tend to change positions during the night – Sleepers who don’t have a favorite position have the hardest time finding a suitable snooze surface. But with Simba, you don’t have to worry about your sleeping pattern anymore.
- You like a bit of bounce in your bed – The platform is equipped with a layer of conical coils that give it a bit of bounce and flexibility. This makes it perfect for sleeping and other fun activities.
- You need good motion isolation – The coils and the layers of foam create a nice surface, where motion is not transmitted throughout the entire platform. This means you can easily sleep with an agitated pet or a restless partner and not get bothered.
- You want hypoallergenic bedding – The Simba design has hypoallergenic properties and reduces the amount of dust that tends to settle inside the mattress with time. It’s also antimicrobial and doesn’t allow dust mites to find a home in your mattress.
- You like some contouring – The Hybrid model has a layer of viscoelastic that offers perfect body contouring and a bit of sinkage. This is why it is so perfect for all types of sleeping positions.
You Won’t Like Simba Bed If
- You are looking for a full innerspring platform – Yes, there is a layer with coils inside the Simba, but it is covered with several layers of foam which is why it won’t feel like an all innerspring mattress.
- You want a traditional viscoelastic sleep surface – This is a hybrid so, while it has memory foam in it and it provides contouring, the surface will not have the same feeling. Overall, the foam is quick to respond to your movements, giving a medium-firm feeling.
- You want a year of trial period – If you’re looking for a bed that can be tested throughout all the seasons before you can decide, you should consider a different brand.
Our Look at the Construction
The Simba snooze surface is 25 cm tall and features a 4-layers inner-structure:
- A Layer of Simbatex (5cm) – Named after the manufacturer, Simbatex is a special latex material that provides super comfort and cool, gentle support. Given its latex design, it’s important to specify that this is the layer that provides the Simba with its hypoallergenic properties.
- A Layer With Coils (2 cm) – Here we have encased micro coils with a conical shape that are individually pocketed for maximum motion isolation. They also provide fantastic pressure relief and support your spine and areas of the body according to your needs. Because they are so many (2500 coils in a King size), the coils manage to provide variable support wherever you need it.
- The Viscoelastic Layer (3 cm) – Immediately under the coils, there is the material that offers softness and maximum contouring. It’s true that it’s a bit weird to put the memory foam under the layer equipped with coils, but after having reviewed the bedding, we say it works. It also acts as a transition layer between the coils and the high-density base.
- Base Foam (15 cm) – Shaped with channels and zones for ventilation, the base is solid and provides durability and support to the layers on top.
The cover is made of polyester, and it’s stretchy, hypoallergenic, and thin to allow air to move through easily. It’s also very well-fitted, but it’s not removable, so you’ll only be able to do spot cleaning in the case of an accident.
Overall, the design of the cover is not impressive, but we appreciated the grey side panels that protect the cover from getting dirty too quickly.
The Firmness
According to our review results, Simba Hybrid is indeed a medium-firm that makes all types of sleepers to feel comfortable and taken care of. The top layer is bouncy and flexible, while the layer of coils provides plenty of support. Finally, after reviewing it, the viscoelastic layer is ideally placed to keep you snug and gives a bit of sinkage.
The Luxe design comes with a more complex structure and promotes several layers of coils, with different zones of pressure plus an entirely new top that gives the design a bit more plush. Still, the level of firmness is the same as with the Hybrid model.
Does It Sleep Hot?
The breathable cover, the layers of foam actively prepared to allow the air to move through without hindrance, the layer of coils, and finally, the base that’s specially designed for ventilation tell us that Simba mattresses don’t sleep hot.
Furthermore, during the review, we tested the temperature level in several environments, and the surface remained at the ideal temperature for sleeping, at all times.
Edge Support
Hybrid designs don’t come with the same compression problems as all-foam designs, but this doesn’t necessarily mean edge support will be stellar. Still, in this case, it is!
When you sit on the edge, there is a bit of compression, but when you lay on the surface, Simba keeps it together. This is due to the solid base and the coils layer that is so close to the surface. There is no rolling out of bed with this one!

Overview of Simba Mattress Review & Rating
Summary
While it may seem like just another hybrid design among so many others out there, the Simba mattress comes with several unique features.
First, we have the nicely-refreshing Simbatex material, which is proprietary to the company and promotes a type of latex foam that’s bouncy and allergen-free, feels nice and keeps the bedding cool and dry. Second, we have the positioning of the layers. The fact that the layer of coils is so close to the surface may raise a few eyebrows, but the effect is absolutely fantastic!
The coils provide amazing variable support and keep the spine aligned regardless of your position. Finally, the viscoelastic is buried deep inside under the other two layers, but you can still feel its softness and tender hug.
In the end, reviewing was a very good experience. Simba has a solid, and durable base which is impressive and gives the level of firmness and back support you rarely meet in regular beds. The result is an outstanding product that deserves your attention and your money!
