Leesa is one of the big names in the online bed-in-a-box industry. With 100% USA-sourced and manufactured products, the company offers two mattresses (Leesa and Sapira) and both are well-received by the general public.
However, we decided to focus our attention on the all-foam mattress, so we reviewed the Leesa. According to the specifications, this mattress has a three-layer structure that creates the perfect surface for most sleepers in the country.
If you’re curious to see if these claims are supported by value, check our in-detail review below. If you’re just looking for a quick opinion, check our summary here.
You May Prefer Leesa Mattress If
- You want an all-foam mattress with good pressure relief – Foam beds are great at giving that hug feeling, but this doesn’t necessarily mean the surface will also be supportive. With Leesa, you don’t have to worry about this. All the foam layers used in its construction are specially designed to be both comfy and provide good back support.
- You need the traditional foam feel but not the overheating – It’s a common fact that regular viscoelastic tends to get hot during the night, but Leesa solved this problem by placing the foam underneath a layer that allows good airflow.
- You like to get good value for your money – This is the snooze surface that will make you happy for buying it. It is both affordable and comes with great features, a fact that increases the overall value of the product.
- You share the bed with a restless sleeper – Restless sleepers are the worst when your bed doesn’t offer good motion isolation! Due to the foam construction and the modern technology in includes, Leesa is fantastic at isolating your partner’s movements.
- You tend to switch positions – A great snooze surface allows you to move at night and change positions without waking up. That’s why Leesa is such a great investment!
You May Not Consider Leesa Bed If
- The best snooze surface must have springs – If your heart is strongly set on innerspring, it’s best to go with the flow and choose a different brand.
- The idea of foam is not appealing – The foam used in modern bedding is completely safe for health, but some people still have doubts. Leesa only contains CertiPUR-US®-Certified materials so, if you’re worried about harmful chemicals, you won’t find them here.
The Bed Design and Construction
The producer worked to create a unique combination of beds with layers that will provide sleepers with softness and bounce while also offering contouring and back support. They did the necessary research and came up with the ideal formula for implementing these features without making the product too complicated or expensive.
The result is three different layers of foam:
- Avena Foam (2 inches) – Leesa starts with a bouncy layer that allows air to flow unhindered and keeps the movement on top fluid. You’ll also notice the layer has an egg crate surface at the bottom – this is necessary to keep the sleeper’s temperature at an optimum level and creates the bounciness we mentioned above.
- Memory Foam (2 inches) – High-end viscoelastic material is fantastic for good pressure relief and contouring. Due to this layer, you can still enjoy the traditional properties of memory foam like slow response time.
- Dense Core Support (6 inches) – For strength and increased durability, the producer added a thick layer of high-density foam that is capable of supporting sleepers of all sizes.
The surface is wrapped in a soft, elegant cover that can be removed for spot cleaning. We liked that it’s thicker than with other products we reviewed and gives the mattress a general plush feeling. The cover is gray and has the three white stripes that came to be representatives of this company.
Overall, Leesa is 10 inches thick and it can be used with virtually any type of foundation. Of course, if you want a complete set, you can order the Leesa foundation with the mattress.
Motion Transfer Analyzed (Firmness Level)
Because the company produces two different products, we decided to offer the firmness details on both. This way you can see the difference and learn which one is the best for your needs.
This is the model we reviewed, and according to our findings, it is a medium-firm. In translation, all types of sleepers should feel comfortable on it as it manages to find the sweet spot between firm and soft. While we found it best suited for stomach and back sleepers, side sleepers should also have a blast while using this surface.
In terms of motion transfer, the foam does a fantastic job of isolating the movement. After having reviewed it, we think even light sleepers can enjoy a good night sleep on this bed.
Sapira is a hybrid mattress, which means it also has a layer of coils in its structure (besides the layers found in Leesa). This also means the surface is thicker and, according to online reviews, it’s also firmer.
While it’s still on the medium-firm scale, Sapira is more a firm than a medium which makes it perfect for stomach sleepers and people who like more back support than softness.
Why Edge Support Is Important
There are two main reasons why you should ask about edge support: durability and comfort. A product that doesn’t feature good support around the edges will lose shape faster if you use the bed for sitting. Also, if you share the surface with a partner, you’ll want to be able to lay comfortably on the entire surface, not just the middle.
Leesa has acceptable edge support, given the fact that it is an all-foam surface and it comes compressed in a box (these types of products is not famous for good support at the edge). There is indeed compression when you sit on the edge, but the surface behaves nicely when you’re sleeping away from the middle.
If edge support is very important to you, consider taking a look at Sapira. Due to the layer of coils, this product is better supported all over.
Additional Considerations
- 100-night trial – You get to test the product in your home and according to your standards. In the case something is not right, you can return it and get your money back.
- 10-year full replacement limited warranty – Valid only for the original buyer of the product.
- Comes in a box – It is easy to move around and extremely easy to install wherever you want. It takes a few minutes to expand and needs a bit of off-gassing, but that’s it!
- Free delivery & returns – Yes, the company will deliver it for free and they’ll also pick it up without charging you.
- You can try it in a store – They have several partnerships with well-known stores in the US (Pottery Barn and others) and you can see and test the bed before considering the purchase.
- Shipping outside of the US – The company can also ship the mattress in the UK, Canada, and Germany.
- A brand with social impact – They are actively involved in supporting the less-fortunate through donations and volunteer work.
- Support for the environment – For each product they sell, they plant a tree. Now who wouldn’t want to support this type of action?
Overview of Leesa Mattress Review & Rating
Summary
Leesa is one of the first brands to promote the bed-in-a-box concept and the fact that it’s still standing today, when the concept is wildly popular, says a lot about the value of its products. They didn’t just manage to survive in a highly-competitive niche; they improved and developed new technologies to make sleep a better experience for people everywhere and while we were reviewing their mattresses this is exsacly what we found out.
We loved the all-foam bed and the company standing behind it. Of course, it won’t fit everyone, but it comes with good features and is the number one product for many users.
