Eight’s mission is to have more energetic and happy people by helping them sleep better and get healthier. For this, they created three different snooze platforms and smart devices by combining hard-work and sleep research with modern technologies.

The company was founded in 2014, with the headquarters in New York, where they plan all their amazing products and fantastic tech sleep devices. The cool thing about it is that Eight is actually a tech company producing high-end mattresses, rather than just being a mattress company that toys with some tech.

You’ll Love the Eight Sleep Mattress in Your Bedroom If You

• Like choosing the level of firmness – If you’re not persuaded by the idea of a one-size-fits-all surface, Eight Sleep offers you three different levels of firmness and two types of constructions (all-foam and hybrid). This way, you have the possibility to choose exactly what you like.
• Enjoy a combination of hugging and support – Eight Sleep managed to create with all their mattresses a wonderful combination of cozy comfort and reassuring support. This way, even if the surface has a lot to give, your spine will continue to be supported.
• Like the idea of technology in your mattress – Modern times see sleep differently, and by introducing sensors in the cover, you have access to valuable information about your pattern. Not to mention, the Smart Cover comes with better temperature control and lots of cool new features!
• Enjoy good temperature control and hate sleeping hot – Even if you don’t get the high-tech cover, each of the three available sleeping surfaces is well-ventilated and don’t trap heat.

You’ll NOT Love the Eight Sleep Bed in Your Bedroom If You

• Need a viscoelastic surface – The Jupiter+ (the one we reviewed) is a medium-firm surface, but the other two are a bit softer. However, none of these products will bring the slow-move feeling of traditional memory foam.
• Want a firm surface with springs – While Mars+ has springs in its construction, the surface is soft. So, if your dream is to sleep on a firm innerspring, maybe Eight Sleep is not the brand for you.

Materials Breakdown and Construction

• 2 Inches of Reactive Foam – Engineered to respond swiftly, the foam provides the sleeper with contouring and plenty of comfort but still maintains a firm feeling which brings support and good alignment.
• 2 Inches of Contouring foam – The support provided by the first layer is reinforced by this sheet of contouring memory foam that cradles the hips and shoulders. It’s the layer that adds some hugging in the latex-like feeling of the first sheet of foam.
• 2 Inches of Supportive Transition Foam – as you move down, towards the last layer, this is where most motion isolation happens. It’s also a less hugging sheet of foam that provides the progression from the softer layers above to the base.
• 4 Inches of High-Density Foam – This layer is solid and provides support for all types of sleepers. It’s also denser than the other layer, to keep the mattress durable and fresh for as long as possible.

Overall, Jupiter+ is 10 inches tall, which is the general standard with most all-foam designs. Now, protecting all these layers, there is a thin sheet of fabric that provides breathability and keeps everything in place. This one is stretchy and can be spot cleaned if necessary.

Of course, given that Jupiter+ can be purchased with the Eight Sleep Smart Cover (optional choice), it’s understandable that the default one is a bit less spectacular. However, it is just as useful as other covers, and it protects the layers inside.

Firmness – What You Should Know

Since we only had the chance to review the Jupiter+ surface, we asked other users how they feel about the Saturn+ and the Mars+. This way you can make an idea about all the Eight Sleep models and can take the right decision for you.

This is the basic version, with only three layers of durable foam and a medium-firm feeling. It was designed to please most of the customers from both a budget point of view and the level of firmness.

The fact that one of the layers is missing doesn’t affect the overall quality and durability of the surface as the transition layer was replaced by a thicker, sturdier base. This way, the platform is still responsive and contouring, which makes us recommend it for most sleepers out there.

The surface is a medium firm towards firm as it provides sinkage and hugs you when you sleep, but it’s also great for keeping your spine aligned. As a result, it is great for people who like sleeping on their side, back, and stomach because it accommodates everyone’s needs.

We proved this during the review by asking several colleagues to try the surface. Everyone was extremely happy with the comfort it provides, and we didn’t register any complaints.

The last model on the list of products offered by Eight Sleep, the Mars+ is soft and cuddly. The design still features four layers (just like Jupiter+), but the structure is completely changed. Underneath the first two foam sheets, Mars+ is equipped with a 4-inch layer of sleeved coils and the base foam is reduced to just 2 inches.

This makes the surface bouncier than the other two, and the sinkage sensation is combined with the good support and pushback action of coils.

However, we would only recommend the Mars+ to sleepers who know for sure they need a softer design and sensitive side sleepers.

Sleeping Cold (Tested)

All three Eight Sleep products are designed to prevent overheating, but if you want to try the high-tech cover, you will definitely avoid any temperature issues. The cover connects to your smartphone and allows you to set the level of temperature as needed. It also allows setting different temperature zones, for two different people, which is impressive.

But even if you don’t choose to get the sleep tracking cover, the sheets of foam are especially layered to absorb heat and humidity from the surface and dissipate it through the sides, while the default cover stimulates breathability.

During the review, we tested both the technologically-enhanced cover and the standard surface, and both provided amazing results in terms of sleeping cool.

Edge Support

Besides the Mars+, the Eight Sleep products are all-foam designs without any special reinforcements for the edge. This means that you will notice some compression when sitting on the edge, but otherwise, you will be able to use the entire bed surface without that rolling out of bed sensation.
